December Swaps Are In!!!

Morning! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. For some their weekend continues, since we are celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday! This is also my mother's birthday. Unfortunately growing up we didn't have this day off until after she passed away. She was a wonderful woman and so talented in many ways. I feel I get my talents from her in a way. When she was a Girl Scout leader, she would have my sister and I make the crafts she wanted the girls to do at the meetings. I guess we were guinea pigs! I loved doing this, so as you can see I've been crafting for a very long time.

Well I got my swaps from December late last week and thought I'd share a few with you each Monday in January.

As a review, I participate in a monthly swap with a group of talented Stampin' Up! Demonstrators. The swaps are due at the end of each month. The host chooses what the theme. For December the theme was a tricky one! It was a color combo of Smokey Slate and Perfect Plum with any Designer Series paper and to make it a thank you card. The host, Carol, thought this would be a good masculine looking card and thought that's what most of us would do! Well let me tell you, she was wrong! They are all great looking cards but most were not masculine!

So this first card can certainly be masculine and made by our host Carol! She kept it simple and used the Wood Textures Designer Series paper stack. This is really a great paper stack and it looks really like the real thing!

This next card was made by Lilly. She used the same stamp set that Carol did, Daisy Delight. When I first looked at this card, I thought she didn't use any DSP, then I realized she did. Do you see it? It's the center of the flower! Not sure how well you can see it but she also used she also used the Petal Burst Embossing Folder. In real life you can see it and gives a nice texture.

Many of the cards have that grey look to them, but not this card! This DSP really gives it a pop! Debbie made this card and love how it turned out. Only 2 cards didn't use Smokey Slate as it's card base and they are in this post! I like how she made use of the dies from the Eclectic Layers Thinlits.

Feature Friday

Happy Friday! Yeah! It's actually above freezing too! I hope your new year is going well Things seem to have calmed down a bit and I'm able to actually get almost everything on my list done! Another Yeah!

If you're new to my blog Feature Friday is all about highlighting a product from one of the current catalogs. I choose something to highlight all month long. For January I chose Bloomin' Love with it's coordinating thinlit Bloomin' Hearts. This week I'm doing a couple of cards that are for Valentine's Day but could very much be used for a wedding or anniversary and of course you can change up the color to suite your needs.

This is the stamp set and thinlit.

For this first card I used the new Brusho Crystals that is in the Occasions Catalog. I've had a blast playing around with this new product and working on setting a date for a class. The card base is Crumb Cake and the next layer is the Shimmery White. I die cut the heart from that layer. I took the heart out and sprayed it with the mister, then sprinkled the Gamboge, Yellow, and Brilliant Red on the heart. I waited to see how much it was blending then sprayed some more water on the heart then blotted it with a paper towel and let it dry. I love the way it turned out. I did the same to some vellum card stock. When I wet that it curled so much I had to press it with an iron to flatten it out! Then I die cut the small flowers and adhered them with some glue dots and added some pearls as accents. After I adhered the shimmer layer of die cut card stock I used dimensionals on the heart to set in back in place and pop it up a bit.

This next card I got the idea from a couple of valentine cards I saw on Pinterest and in the catalog so I combined bits and pieces of those cards. I wanted to use the Petal Passion Designer Series paper and tried to figure out how to get the hear to show up. I was going to use a white hear with red flowers on it but it just didn't have enough pop, so I tried the Real Red heart with a solid black heart behind it and thought that worked great. I die cut the solid heart from the Sweet and Sassy framelit. Next I wanted to add some die cut flowers like I did in the first card and thought the vellum card stock would be just right. I added the glitter epoxy shapes in the Occasions Catalog. I used the Cherry Cobbler Blends to color them, then adhered to the flowers. The "love is in the air" is from 2 of the stamps in the set. To me this is more of a traditional Valentine with the red.

Well I hope you enjoyed these cards. I had a lot of fun making these cards. I'm working on some packaging type of samples for you for next week or the week after. So if you want to give some chocolates to some special friends or loved ones you can whip up a few!
